AAWSVH Board members and officers are elected for nine-year terms.  Board members are elected by the membership; officers are elected by the Board.  Current Board members and officers of the corporation are:

President - Tom Hanson

Tom Hanson, a 1964 WSVH graduate, recently retired after 16 years of teaching and administration at WSVH. Prior to that, he was Director of Services for the Blind for Illinois, and also worked in Minneapolis, Cleveland, Indianapolis, Portland and Kalamazoo. Now that he and his wife Sue have both retired, they will be Floridians for the winter months and return to Milton for the summers.

This is Tom's first term on the Board of Directors. His colleagues elected him president for the next three years. Tom's interests include travel and sports and the preservation of WSVH. His father, Clarence Hanson, was a 1930 WSVH graduate, and at 97, he remains interested in the school and in all of you.

Vice President - Karen Heesen

Karen Thorssen Heesen (1969) went on to pursue a degree in music at the Baptist Bible College in Springfield, MO.  There she met, and later married, David Heesen.  They have five children; two are WSVH graduates.  Karen taught elementary music at the school their children attended until the last child began school, when she entered Beloit College to complete her work in music and elementary education.  Karen is now employed by the WSVH.  She currently teaches Social Studies and English, and continues to advocate for quality programs for VI kids.
